Dr. J.M. Pahwa was one of the most prominent eye surgeons of India. He was recognized internationally for his services. He conducted numerous eye camps all over India and provided medical care to eye patients. For his selfless service Government of India awarded him the title of Padam Shri in 1973. He was awarded numerous awards by many organizations.
He was a relentless, selfless, dedicated crusader against blindness. He was really champion for the cause of the poor, needy and downtrodden. He has brought Eye care to the very doors of the needlessly blind people living in the remote, rural, hilly and far flung areas by organizing hundreds of Eye Relief Camps on Scientific lines.
Dr.Pahwa modified the techniques of retinal detachment to suit the Indian conditions. He was associated with Nehru Institute of Ophthalmology and Research, Sitapur since its inception as a Professor and Deputy Director. He has specialized in the difficult subjects of the Retinal Detachment and Photocoagulation, and has utilized his expertise entirely in a spirit of selfless service to people suffering from eye diseases. He has also organized a large number of eye relief camps for the benefit of the poor and rural section of the community.
